Heckler & Koch delivers first G95A1 assault rifles to the Bundeswehr

Oberndorf am Neckar/ Grafenwöhr, 4 December 2025

Heckler & Koch today handed over the first 300 G95KA1 (HK416A8) assault rifles to the Bundeswehr. The official handover took place at the Grafenwöhr training area, conducted by Lieutenant General Heico Hübner, Deputy Inspector of the Army, as well as Vice Admiral Carsten Stawitzki (National Armaments Director), marking the start of the initial equipment for the 122nd Armoured Infantry Battalion, which will be the first Army unit to be equipped with the new standard assault rifle.

The handover was also attended by Dr Jens Bodo Koch, CEO of Heckler & Koch, and Sales Director Marco Geißinger.

The G95A1 is based on the HK416 A8 and was further developed in close cooperation with the Bundeswehr. The standard version features a 16.5-inch barrel (419 mm), while the short version KA1 has a 14-inch barrel (355 mm).

On 3 December, the Defence Committee of the German Bundestag decided to expand the framework agreement from 118,718 to 250,000 G95A1/KA1 systems.

In his speech, Dr Jens Bodo Koch emphasised:

'Those who bear responsibility in the field need equipment they can rely on. With the G95A1/KA1, we are delivering a modern, precise and reliable assault rifle for the men and women in uniform who protect our freedom. The Bundestag's decision to expand the framework agreement to 250,000 systems is a strong signal for the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr and for the trust in Heckler & Koch as a reliable part of the German security architecture.'
