Heckler & Koch hands over the 15,000th MG5 to the German Armed Forces
With the handover of the 15,000th universal machine gun MG5 to Robin Kettel, the project manager for machine guns at the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), the framework agreement concluded in 2013 between the federal government and Heckler & Koch reaches another important milestone.
The framework agreement provides for the delivery of up to 22,672 MG5 machine guns to the German Armed Forces. The handover of the anniversary model underscores the trusting and reliable partnership between the Bundeswehr and Heckler & Koch – as well as the clear commitment to Germany’s and Europe’s security policy responsibilities.
"The MG5 stands, like hardly any other system, for innovation, precision and reliability under all operating conditions," emphasises Marco Geißinger, Heckler & Koch’s Head of Sales. "We are proud to be able to equip the soldiers of the Bundeswehr with a powerful and modern system – developed and manufactured in Germany."
Marco Geißinger continues: "The delivery of the 15,000th MG5 demonstrates that we are a reliable partner for our customers, even in complex major projects. Our aim is to deliver the highest quality at every stage – from development through production to delivery."
With the MG5, Heckler & Koch offers the Bundeswehr a robust and precise universal machine gun in calibre 7.62 mm x 51 NATO. It is gradually replacing the MG3, which has been used for decades, and impresses in operation thanks to its simple handling, modular design and high precision even during sustained fire.
